Also known as pop up parks, parklets convert on-street parking spaces into temporary people places in support of a friendly environment for people biking and walking. They create attractive public spaces for eating, reading, listening to piano music, or meeting a friend. The National Association of City Transportation Officials says, "While parklets are foremost intended as assets for the community, their presence has also been shown to increase foot traffic, and in some cases revenues, for adjacent businesses. "
Generally, parklets correspond with First Fridays. Due to Covid-19, however, Health Department recommendations around social distancing make hosting a parklet not possible at this time. Please stay tuned for future opportunities.
