BIKE
LIGHTS

Missoula In Motion offers 1 FREE set of bike lights, per person, per year. Visit City Hall, Monday - Friday,  8:00 am - 5:00 pm, to get your free set (no appointment needed). We also offer FREE battery replacements if you bring your lights back in once they are no longer working.

Using bike lights isn't just a good decision, it is part of Montana State Law. "Bicycles, when in use at dawn, dusk, or nighttime must be equipped with: (a) a front white light visible (b) rear facing red light."

BIKE
LOCKS

Bike theft unfortunately does happen, but having a bike lock is the easiest way to avoid having your bike being stolen. Even if your bike is locked, however, it could be at risk of being stolen if left unattended long enough or if the lock is easy to cut.

Free Cycles sells quality bike locks at cost, when they are able to keep then in stock. The University of Montana also provides at cost bike locks via the ASUM Transportation office.

LOCKING
TIPS

  • Always lock your bike to a secure, fixed object, preferably a designated bike rack.

  • Avoid locking your bike to trees as this can cause damage to the tree.

  • Take any removable bike parts with you when you leave, like pannier bags or water bottles.

  • Lock your bike around the metal frame, and include a wheel, too, if your chain is long enough to do so.
