MAY is Bike Month 

For 2019, Missoula In Motion is partnering with Pedal Missoula to coordinate a month long celebration of all things bike featuring events, group rides and more

2018 Bike Month Events

May 2            Sustainable Commuting 1 on 1 with Mountain Line
11am-1pm

Would you like to start riding the bus more, but don't know where to start planning your trip? Want to try biking and busing, but nervous about loading your bike on the bus bike racks? Maybe you have questions about safer bike routes, using our app, or Way to Go Missoula? Join Mountain Line at the Downtown Transfer Center from 11am - 1pm the first Wednesday of every month this summer (except July 4) for free sustainable commuting assistance. Look for our table and practice bike rack and start changing your commuting habits to save money, help the environment, and be healthier in body and mind!

Missoula In Motion is selling affordable helmets on behalf of St. Patrick Hospital Trauma Center at the Clark Fork Market from 8:00am - 1:00pm. 

Community Food and Agriculture Coalition will be leading group rides from different areas of town to the farmers market. Visit Missoula Events for full details.

May 7           Commuter Challenge Kick Off Party @ Bayern Brewing

Commuter Challenge participants are invited to attend the kick off party. Travel sustainably to Bayern and receive your first beverage for free. Check in with Missoula In Motion for your ticket.

May 12        Kidical Mass 

There is a monthly family and kid-friendly social bike ride from a local coffee shop to a nearby playgroup. Each ride is no more than three miles. Meet at Market on Front (9:30-10:00am), pedal to the playground. Visit https://pedalmissoula.org/kidical-mass-missoula for more info.

                      A.J Gibson Architectural Bike Tour

Who:     Missoula Historic Preservation COmmission in celebration of May National Historic Preservation Month

What:    Architectural Bike Tour led by preservation architect Jim McDonald. Tour will discuss Missoula's A.J                     Gibson Buildings in the downtown and Southside Historic District, including his home on 2nd St. 

Where:  Meet in front of Missoula County Courthouse, 200 W. Broadway

Why:     This tour is a part of a series in celebration of May National Historic PReservation Month.

May 15        REI Bike Maintenance Basics at Highlander TapHouse

Join REI Outdoor School at Highlander TapHouse.  In this informative session you will learn how to lube a chain, fix a flat tire in record time, and make other minor adjustments to your bicycle that will keep you riding smoothly and prolong your bike's life.  No experience necessary!  Note that this is a demonstration class.  Class takes place at Highlander TapHouse.  All ages are welcome to attend the class, but you must be 21 or older to enjoy the delicious craft beer from Highlander!  First pour is just $2.  Please register at REI.com/Learn.

May 19        Missoulians on Bicycles

MOBI is hosting 2 bike events on the 19th: Spring Fling (registration needed) and Sula-Wisdom Paul O'Connell Memorial (80 miles) . Visit their website for ride details. 

May 21-25  Adventure Cycling Give-Away

Ride your bike to Adventure Cycling Association, 150 E. Pine St., and sign up for a complimentary 6 month membership. Already a member? Existing members can stop by for a free water bottle. 406-721-1776

Meet at the Caras Park Pavilian from 5:30 - 6pm. Roll out at 6:00pm for a 15-20 mile social-based ride. 

May 23        Women's Bike Maintenance Workshop

Free Cycle's Emily Jensen will lead a workshop to help women become more confident when working on their bicycle. Bring your bike, your questions, food and/or drink to share and enjoy the camaraderie of other women interested in being more independent with their bikes. Free admissions, yet donations are appreciated. All women are welcome! (Free Cycles can provide bicycles for people to work on if needed.) This is a great hands-on introductory workshop to learn and practice repair skills on your bicycle.

Weekly gathering of bike commuters at Brennan's Wave from 7:15-8:15am. Coffee is provided, just bring a mug. Share a good conversation and a warm beverage. Coffee is donated by Black Coffee Roasting Co.
